Pragmatic Competence of Iranian EFL Learners in the Light of Refusal Speech Act

چکیده

In order to communicate accurately and fluently, learners need know how produce different speech acts inside outside the classroom context. Refusal act is complicated, performing refusals successfully needs a higher level of pragmatic competence (Eslami, 2010). This study done in analyze refusal its responses among Iranian EFL learners. The participants this are 120 advanced These provided with scenarios so that they exposed situations where should both refuse respond refusals. first phase paper includes analysis strategies. second deals responses. It was revealed female more inclined use indirect strategies as related male direct For responses, used reinforcing micro functions while accepting frequently. results contribute instruction way help interpret realize successfully. I will also investigate possible cross-cultural miscommunication, which occurrence acknowledged previous research studies (Shishavan & Sharifian, 2016).
